I have a disc brake power booster on the white Javelin. I got it from APD several years ago. I believe it to be an A1 Cardone rebuild. They did a great job rebuilding the "mechanical" portion of the booster, but after a few years of light duty use, the exterior began to look kinda crappy. So I took it off, and removed the boots and pushrods and whatever else was in the way of a pretty paint job application. When I pulled the boot off of the back of the booster this yellowish foam stuff fell out and pretty much turned to bantha fodder on me. What to do? Well I searched around and emailed cardone, they responded by saying they wouldn't help. Probably thought they were too big for their britches and why should they help a little guy like me what's in it for them you know kinda deals. So I put that part on the back burner and I painted it a real pretty gloss black like I wanted. Two coats of epoxy primer wet sanded in between and two coats of gloss black catalyzed urethane, wet sanded after the first coat. So back to the yellowish sponge. I called Scott with "Brake Materials and Parts" in Fort Wayne Indiana. He rebuilds boosters and all sorts of things with brakes and stuff. I explained my predicament to him and he prompltly replied that piece of sponge is the air filter at the back of the booster. He made it sound important. It must filter in-coming air that moves about when the diaphragm moves.  He also had no problem helping me find a solution. He's sending me a new one, made of more durable material via UPS. So this is really a good guy alert. If you need help with things that this guy does call him, he'll help you.  Here's his website  http://brakematerialsandparts.webs.com/

Here's his phone number 260-426-3331

Thanks Scott,   Wink

Cardone may be well known, but their customer service SUCKS. Their official way of business is to NOT talk to the customer. They want the customer to talk to the retailer and the retailer talk to them!

I bought a Cardone throttle body off of Amazon. I had to call Cardone three times and beg Amazon until they replaced the throttle body! Amazon replaced it; I don't know if they ever got anything from Cardone or not.

If I have choices and Cardone is one, I Cardon't...

When I worked at NAPA and had to call them, unless I got my buddy on the line (who got tired of them and left), I got the run around. I explained that a reman master cyl for disc brakes had the pressure retention valve in the wrong port, causing the brakes to stay engaged in front and leak in the back and they were like "I suppose you're a brake engineer?". Nope, I'm a former mechanic of 30 years who quit due to bad back and injuries. I finally just pulled it apart, switched the valves and springs, then re-installed it. (lost the photos when my old computer crashed)

Gouge is a military slang term roughly equivalent to cliff notes -- sort of like getting the short answers to the test questions...
