I am installing a torqueflite tranny on a 69 390 block. Which block plate do I use between the engine and tranny or does it matter. Could someone please post a picture of what it is supposed to look like.

Would this set on ebay work(they say for std tranny, but look like an auto would work)?

Those are the top and bottom halves for a manual tranny, not sure if they're the same for an auto.

Putting a TF up to a 69 390 won't work unless you've had the back of the crank machined.  The pilot hole that centers the torque converter is too small.  Someone used to make a no-machine adapter that was about 1/4" thick that went between the block and tranny, and a flange for the crank, but I don't know if it's available anymore.

I have had the machine work done on the crank needed to install that adaptor ring(bought it from Bull Tear), and have the proper flexplate, so I have what I need except the block plate. I have a couple different ones here, but not sure which one to use.

So any help here would be appreciated.

Use the one for the torque flight.

There is no bottom and top half for a manual tranny. Manual tranny plates were one piece. BW auto plates were also one piece with a window for access to the converter bolts. Later auto tranny plates were two piece.

Yes, I sorta figured that. However, I don't know what it looks like. The one that came with the motor and tranny I got was one solid piece and you had to unbolt the torque converter through the opening for the starter which looked to be notched out by the owner. I am figuring that is not the correct one because putting the motor and tranny back together with just thatlittle space will be very tough. So, that's why I am asking for pictures.

Thanks!

amx3906,
The two piece one shown in the ebay link claims to be for a manual tranny. I cannot imagine why they would use a two piece unit for a manual one.

Again, I ask if anyone has a picture of one.

I will be at the shop tomorrow afternoon or Thursday morning and look for a two piece to photo.

This is for a TH 400 and only stick shifts use a one piece, so you can rule those out.

The Torque Flight uses the same two flat pieces but not the curved splash pan as the TH400
