My only AMC with a working cigarette lighter is my Javelin. Would like to get 'em working again in the two Hornets and Gremlin - not because I smoke (which I don't), but it would be nice to say everything works 100% and so that friends can charge their cellphones n' stuff on trips.  Always nice to have a power outlet around.

I've checked the wiring in all three cars - that's not the problem. The problem is the sockets themselves get rusty, or in the Gremlins case, the ground tab broke off.

I'm having ZERO luck locally finding a couple good old fashioned screw-in style cigarette lighters.

Anybody have a better idea? Am I overthinking this? Is it as simple as contacting one of the vendors?

I like having stuff like that work also.

Although I have to say,
anyone that could open the ashtray, push in the lighter, pull it out, light a smoke, and put it back in while driving was probably weaving down the road like a one armed texter or flat out in a crash on the side of the road driving up insurance rates.

I have a little solar panel trickle charger I keep on the dash that plugs in there, I can't imagine using it while driving!

To plug in the GPS for them AMC shows Thumbs Up

Try Radio Shack as they may have the socket part.

I usually leave in a non-operating lighter to dissuade people from smoking. But, I only have one friend who does and he knows unless he wants to have his skin removed with a cheese grater and covered in salt.... don't smoke in my cars or around me. LOL  However, thanks for the tip!

Heck, what are there, like 4 ashtrays in a Humpster?
We should hire someone to smoke in there just for originality.

Check with somebody that has a functional lighter, my lighter works but the phone charger won't no matter how I plug it in.  I really have no idea why, other than it probably doesn't ground for some reason.

Funny yes, but I am serious, I have used the lighter socket to plug in a trickle charger while parked , and I have to bend down there and mess around.

That is always parked.

While parked I have also plugged a GPS into it.
Often you have to twist and turn just right to get it to power the GPS.
Just reaching down to mess with it while driving, is enough to distract a lot.

Are all Humpster Javelins the same lighter like that?

Seriously,
a smoker in a Javelin would live a lot longer using a zippo on 4 packs of filterless cigarettes a day,
than the risk from crashing while using the car lighter on half a pack of mild light cigarettes a day.

Is there anyone here that actually was a smoker and used the 71 Javelin lighter and ashtray set up back then? Is it as bad as it seems it would be?
