Need some help picking a carb. Leaning towards this Holley.
http://www.holley.com/0-82750 I'm starting to order parts for the Javelin. Mild build on the 401. Should be around 450 horse. Car will weigh in around 3300#. Pretty decided on 3.55:1 gears out back. Car will be mostly weekend fun, some track, and shows. Jereme |

I have the Holley Street Avenger 650 on my 360 bored 40 over and pretty big cam....best one I've tried. I'm sure you'll get plenty of other suggestions on this subject!

I've got the Holley Ultra Double-Pumper w/electric choke on my 409 (.040 70 390 w/401 crank), Edelbrock heads, cam, air gap, 1 5/8" long tubes. Love it! Added a secondary idle adjustment bracket, but didn't touch any of the other settings. Ran/runs great out of the box.

I rebuilt a plain old 3310 750 vacuum secondary for my 401 (Torker, big Summit cam, headers, 3.89 gears etc.) and it loves it. I'd venture to say that carb in the link should work out well for you.

Whizkidder, how do you like the Double Pumper? I bet that 409 is a thirsty beast. I guess I'm leaning towards the vacuum secondary to get a little more street-ability.
Josh, How are the 3.89 gears on the highway? |

I've also read that the carbs without chokes are dangerous and like to backfire. Anyone had that happen or heard of that?

They're not the best highway gear. I don't do a lot of highway driving with the Rambler but the few times I did I could hang with the slower traffic and keep the RPMs reasonable. I'd stay with the 3:55's if you're going to be on the highway a lot.

that's not true I have a 850 speed demon that I put on when I go to the track and a holley HP750 that i use on the street and neither 1 of them have the choke set up on them the tops of the carbs are all milled nice and smooth I drive my car in the winter months and have no problem starting it with no choke. If the timing is right it shouldn't backfire at all |

I wont be in the highway a lot but I do want to keep it reasonable. I want to be able to drive it to shows and might travel a bit to get there. How do you like the Torker? I'm looking at the Torker II myself. The cam on my list is a Lunati Voodoo Hydraulic flat tappet. (234/242 @.050, .547/.569 lift) I'm trying to find the right Carb for the combo.
