Are you sure the condenser is good? Just because it's new, doesn't guarantee it's good.

What's your coil voltage? Assuming the condenser is good, too much voltage to the coil primary could cause arcing at the points. Has the resistance wire been replaced with regular copper wire?

Kind of what I was thinking. Condencer unless you changed it at the same time as the 3 set of points. Then the only other thing is too much voltage to coil, thru it to the points.
Could use old school Mopar resister on the wire to the coil like this.

Good points so far:
Lacking resistance wire, as in it's been replaced by an ordinary copper wire,
incorrect coil, however, that's most likely to be the case on cars that use no resistance wire or ballast,
Bad condensor - that's really honestly rare, but can happen, unless you're already on the 2nd one and it's still doing the same,
OR - and I say this as it's interesting comment about alternator - how's the voltage?
Is the regulator bad, causing the alternator to die, and now causing an over-voltage condition?
Check the voltage of the battery with car not running after having headlights on for 30 seconds, then check it again with car running about 1,000 RPM or so. If it's over about 14.7v with a moderate under-hood temp, you have a problem.
The voltage will vary with ambient temp so if the air temp near the regulator is under 50 (f) then you may have say 15v or so normally. But if the air near the battery/regulator is warmer, then 14.7 is as high as you should see.

Check for that resistance wire in the line from ignition switch to coil, check the condensor, check the voltage output of the alternator -

Maybe he got a North American condenser. Electrons, like the toilets, circle in the opposite direction down under, so a North American condenser would generate arcs rather than suppress them. An Aussie built condenser should fix the problem. Smile

Sounds like someone removed the resistor wire, re-wired the coil OR the solenoid "I" terminal is jammed against the plunger. Found that on a couple of mine in the past, but fairly rare. Unplug the I terminal and it had voltage even with the car shut off.

The v8s use a resitence wire in the wire harness , the 6cyl the resister is built into the coil . Most after market coils do not have the built in resister. Check the voltage in and voltage out , 12 in 6to8 out. If 12 out add a external resister .

BLOODY RIPPA MATE!!!!Wink
well this advice made me go look at the coil, and the Original  coil was replaced  before i bought it with a bosch coil without a restistor , i then replaced it with a gt40 coil , again without a resistor , tonight i replaced that with a elchin gx80 coil WITH A BUILT IN RESISTOR  , the car runs perfect and i have not burnt out the points in 30minutes as per the last 4 sets .....mate i have been searching for this problem for weeks , and 2nights ago i was convinced it was a dude lifter and was just about to pull the head off ....
YES THERE IS A RAMBLER GOD.....AMEN!!!!SmileTongueSmile

bloody good ramblersSmile

ps ...thanks to all the guys that answered/helped me out WinkWink
