Hi, I have a 65 american wagon.  I replaced the fuel tank sending unit with a new one. Fuel gauge doesn't work or move. Temp gauge doesn't either. The instrument dash lites work. Turn signal and oil light works. Any help would be appreciated--thanks

Lots of info on this on the forum. The instrument voltage regulator (IVR) plugs into the back of the instrument cluster and provides a pulsed 5.1 volts to the fuel and temp gauges. If the IVR fails, the gauges will not work.  You need to pull out the cluster and find the IVR unit (usually 3 prongs) located usually between the temp and fuel gauges. No real way to test it but easy to replace.

Actually, on an American, the IVR is part of the fuel gauge. Have a look through the electrical section here. There are lots of threads on this subject and there should be plenty of tips and suggestions.

Welcome to the forum.  Great to see another wagon on board.

Lots of us have had trouble with these two gauges.  I did a quick search  (Gas gauge) and came up with this listing.  When I first joined the forum, I found a lot of my answers byt doing searches....or, if not answers, then I could eliminate posibilities.

Incorrect. On the 64-65 Americans, and probably 66,  the IVR is a seperate piece. It's the later models where it is part of the fuel gauge. Wink
