All you had to do was move the spring perches on the hornet diff out or????

No, it was a direct bolt in.  No mods whatsoever.

Gremlins, Hornets, Javelins and AMX's all share the same spring perch spacing as well as most other models from 68 on. Early Javelin/ AMX's used a narrower rear that was the same as the Hornet/Gremlin width. In 71, the Javelin body was wider so they used a 3" wider axle.
