No harm; no foul.  And, yes, your dad could be a BIG pain in the butt.  I'm glad to know he's still around- getting older; like the rest of us.

Charlie,
Here is the exact moment the Drag on Lady was unloaded off my car trailer at our Saturday show. You can see me thru the left rungs of the trailer ramp as I am putting the ramp back up so I can run back to my house to get my AMX race car to the show, as it was not street legal. Cary is seen outside the driver's side of his AMX and Warren Friedrich is at the front of the AMX.

Nothing condescending on my end here, just the facts.
Your dad was warned by both Mike and I, but he kept his foot in it, over rev'd that engine and threw a rod.
I did trailer the Drag On Lady to our show.
I did blow a radiator hose on my El Camino towing my AMX to the autocross and fixed it on the side of the road and continued onto the auto cross, Don't remember if Cary helped me or not tightening the hose.
Mike and I are still close friends.
I never had any interest in buying the Drag On Lady and in fact, I was selling down my collection of AMX's and NOS parts at that time to put together money to buy the home I am still in to this day.
Cary may have towed it from Seattle, but that was a year before our show. He brought it from Seattle to Concord, CA for the AM Elites show, then left it in storage there locally for a year, hoping to return the next year for another AMO show. The AM Elites cancelled that show, so our group, The South Bay AMX Club, hastily put together the show instead that you attended. Besides the Drag On Lady, we also had the 1st showing of the newly restored 390 Breedlove AMX and a Penske Javelin, as well as a large group of other notable AMC's.

Interesting stories guys!

More proof that a small group like the AMC  world is more like an extended family than it is a hobby. Smile

I remember Pat showing me the famous tree when I still lived in California and had driven up from the Central Coast to get some parts. He had fond memories...

Minor correction- he mentioned the tree, but I was only at his house, not where the tree was. He sent me a pic of the car and tree and my memory confused the photo with our conversation.

I can assure you the car has not "gone down the crapper". It would not take much to have her back on the track. Fact!

I cannot post pics or videos on this forum yet but I have video of her running not very long ago.

Yes. He passed a few months ago but she is still in our family.

"Was Cary over revving it because it felt and sounded so good, or just failed to know better ?".  Cary knew better but he was believing that his faulty factory tach was correct.  No convincing by Pat or myself made him believe otherwise.  That was what all the screaming was about.  His belief in the accuracy of the factory tach led to the thrown rod.

I may be mistaken but I thought it stated in a post there was an engine analyzer hooked up to it. If so the 2cyl-4 cyl switch set on 2cyl would have read half the rpm it was turning. Had a employee who thought he was more than he was sneak into my shop , tuned his dad car then blew it up because he didn’t know what he was doing.  Of course his dad thought I should pay for it . Until I fired his son and charged him with illegal entry and theft.

Yes there was an engine analyzer hooked up to it out in the engine compartment and that analyzer's tach was set properly, but you could not get an accurate reading as Cary was burying the needle past the highest mark every time he over rev'd it.
