I own a1968 amx 390 with go package.I am looking for a crate engine 390 also to replace my original, which I intend to keep numbers matching.Has anyone purchased one?I have seen one company on ebay that sells engines with one year warranty and no core charge. Will rebuild original sometime later.Just need fresh engine to drop in for now.

Just get the original one rebuilt, by someone that really knows AMC engines. Why spend a pile of money on another engine?
With winter around for a few more months, now is the time.
I'm not sure I've ever seen AMC 390's crate  engines "lying around" Plenty of Ford or Chevy engines are available this way. I know it took me 12 years to find two good 70 390 cores to rebuild.

I've seen rebuild kits for sale on Ebay, but not AMC short or long blocks.

Rather than go with an unknown builder, get an engine from one of the builders who frequent this forum and really know their stuff. It may cost a few more dollars than a discount rebuilder, but grenades are one-time use, so the cheap engine may not be cheaper in the long run.

The shop your seing on ebay is out of Aridzona. You wont find a crate 390 but could have someone rebuild it. I think Ken Parkman is in your neck of the woods. See if you can bug him...hehehehe.
We are just about to forge new AMC V8 crankshafts.. please check here

there are always AMC crate engines by TUFF DAWG engines on ebay every day.
this is a 408 horse 401:

there's also a 390 "crate engine" on there now too.

Indy Cylinder heads also has AMC engines ready to bolt in from mild to bracket race.

personally i would find a reliable machine shop in your area or there has to be someone in your area that has dealt with AMCs, they could probably do a rebuild for less cost than the 390 crate motors that are available currently, that you would be using your original motor. good luck!
