Cylinder Head Locating Dowels for 1970 & up with 1/2" head bolts.
Aware they are available from the vendors, but would anyone happen to know
the ID, OD, Length, or if they are the same as used by some other make,
and if you can get them from NAPA or some other local source, Jeep dealers ?
All my stuff on-hand is the early 7/16" head bolt stuff.
Hoping to be able to find some for 1/2" locally somewhere.

Rooted around in the garage, did find some, looks like
.50 Long x .625 +/- OD x .518 +/- ID

Now the thing is are they the same as used by some other car make ?

I just make them when needed out of 5/8" chrome moly tubing.  Just make sure the head can sit down flush on the block without a head gasket then you know they are not too long.

I haven't had any luck at NAPA on those lately. The big block chevy dowels that I got have too thick of wall. I am going to do the tubing thing I guess.

You dont need to used the doell-pin if you not have, but use a masking tape on the top to stick the head gasket at the right spot. Also push the head at top side ( intake side) get the bolts hole play,, you will get a bit more air flow. Also We have 4 doell-pin available if you want ! 450 474 7950

I measured the heads on my 401 and they were a little under .625 I.D.
FYI... American Parts Depot sells Head dowels that need to be turned
down to under .625 O.D. They were too big.

I made some from 1/2" copper pipe - it's 0.625" OD.  Needed light sanding on the OD to fit.

You can use BBC on 69 and older blocks with 7/16 head bolts or
You can Use Pioneer Part # PF-310-25 for 1/2 head bolts
