And he forgot to tell you that the body number and the number at the bottom of the tag have little relevance to anything so you can pretty much disregard them completely.

THANK YOU!!!

and with this numbers can we determine the date of production?
how can we know if a 71 is an early production from 1970 or same year production and year model.
the only detail I can identify on my two 71 Javelins is that the 71 AMX comes with a vaccum wiper motor and my 71 SST with an electric one. so probably only the early production had the vaccum wiper motor.
any ideas on how estimate the production date?

My early '71 AMX has a silver sticker on the door stating the production date (11/70) in my case.

If that sticker is missing I suppose it would be possible to get a close estimate of the date based on the vin#.  There are folks here who keep track of that sort of info who could probably help.  Try Jeff Thomas.

BTW my AMX has electric wipers.

Didn't forgetWink, but thanks for mentioning that those numbers don't reveal too much.

You may also want to inspect other parts for date codes.  That may be helpful also.  The radiator has a date code, the carb, valve cover tag??, manifolds, Transmission, Flex fan .......the list goes on

Does your car have the rim-blow steering wheel?  Does the center console continue under the dash center section?  Does it have a fiberglass fan shroud?

These things are indicative of an early production '71 AMX.  Other folks here can probably give you more clues.

A lower vin#  would likely reflect an early production (fall of 1970) car, something roughly in the 100001-175001 range.
