Just thinking...something I do and get into trouble. I would replace a TF727 from behind a 360 with a 42RH overdrive. I think I can handle getting the 42RH rebuild to handle the power of a mild 360. My question, what do use for a flexplate on the 360? Wonder if the stock TF727 flexplate would have the proper holes for the torque convertor from a 42RH? Any Ideas? Comments? Suggestions? |

You use a 360 flex plate. I'd still be leery. The inputs and outputs are pretty dinky on that trans.

Hmmmmm
I know the 42RH is a non computer controlled overdrive transmission that when found behind a 4.0L I6, has the AMC bellhousing bolt pattern.
From what I understand, the 42RH is a cousin of the TF999 and 904.
I know the 999/904 can be built to withstand insane levels of power.
I know folks do not car much for the AW4, that when found behind a 4.0L I6, also has the AMC bellhousing bolt pattern.
But it needs some type of rudimentary computer to control a few functions.
I know the AW4 and the Toyota A340 are the same unit.
Toyota installs their A340 behind twin turbo Supra and in Toyota based RV.
While this just a mental exercise at this point, I thought the 42RH would be a good choice due the the lack of a computer.
Maybe the AW4 would better choice because it maybe a slightly stronger unit and might could be built stronger?

Yes it's an A340, but a lot of difference in the valve body setup to handle the power of the turbo motors.Cheap mod is to pull the valve body and block the accumulator pistons.
This last meet at Cordova, there was a Javelin running with an AW-4. Believe it was a 304 running low 15's. Edited by poormansMACHINE - Dec/27/2007 at 12:26pm |

Plain Jane Jav. Maybe white? Rick Jones brought it over from Michigan instead of his usual S/C Rambler that he flogs every year. |

So, I take it that this 304 was a hot motor?
If a AW4 could stand up to a hot 304, then it should have no problems in behind a mild 360.
