Hello All
I now have a 1980 360 that I what to be a strong "street engined" car ( in a 1975 Hornet ).

With some AMC "home work" reading I see AMC has used the same cam spec's in the 360 from 1976 to 1988.  It seems this same cam was also used in the 401's.  ... NAPA shows this cam is # CS-646.

What happens to the street used power/MPG if the same era NAPA # CS-1026R Cam is used in the same 360 Engine ???

Or

Show me a engine data chart from yester-year on the "regular" 4 bbl 360 and the "Police" version that would have came with the CS-1026R spec'd camshaft.

Hello All (again )

The CS-1026R was used on 290's, 343's, 390's.  The new 304's, 360's and even the 401's.

AMC Cam Spec's are:
InTake
Int Dura......280
Exh Dura .....295

Exhaust
Int Dura ..... 204
Exh Dura .... 214

The smog cam ( aka CS-646 ) was also used in every V8.

AMC"smog cam" Cam Spec's are:

269 for the Int and the Exh.
and
196 for both the Int and the Exh.

401's used a different cam than the 360's...................2BBL-4BBL 360's used the same cam. actually the 304's used the same cam as the 360 did as well.

Don't base what came from the factory by looking in a sealed power catalog.
As an aftermarket replacement, they will sell you the same generic 304/360 cam for your 401 since the 401 cam was never reproduced.

Not that I'm aware of. They used stronger valve springs, and stronger springs in the lifters, and larger clearances in the bore and wrist pin. That's about it, isn't it, besides the pan?

Usually a lot more myth than fact associated with "police" engines.
