When I removed the hinges on the doors I stripped about 6 of those phillips head screws. I dont see them in the usual places galvins etc. Does anybody have a source for these? I'm working on a 66 classic but I imagine AMC used these screws on most all their cars.

Do you have a length, diameter and thread? McMaster may have what you need. |

I got mine from Restoration Specialties for my ‘64. They sell in small quantities.

I have a bunch of the standard sixties door hinge screws. How many do you need? Joe

Thanks for the suggestions. Joe I sent you a pm. These sure were a bear to remove. I used an impact wrench, oxy acetelyne torch and a huge Phillips bit.

On my '68, the door striker screws were 'welded' in place, absolutely would not come out. Heads buggered beyond repair, I ended up drilling them out and buying allen socket head screws. Not original but man it's nice having a positive grip on critical screws.
Funny thing is the original's were zinc plated steel, the new socket heads were black oxide. Oh well. But I'd used Permatex nickel antiseize liberally (since they are in a place that gets wet, etc) and after wiping the excess off, the bolt head faces were stained silver. It's been months now and they are still silver, so it looks "factory" enough for me. I had to seek them out from a fastener supply company. MSCDirect didn't have them; maybe McMaster Carr will. 5/16-20 socket flat head, 3/4" I think. |

I could have gone that route. I ended up getting a hand full of used ones from a forum member on here. For FREE! Thanks Pacerman!

There was a big discussion about those screws awhile back. They are NOT Phillips head. Thats why you stripped them.
I actually forgot what they were but I bought a bit. Having AMC Fun, Ollie
