Cam has .489 lift. Build is designed for low rpm power. Most time will be spent under 3000 rpm. Lots of choices. Tell me if I'm looking for the right thing. Shooting for 1.8 installed height, about 100# seat and about 300# open with coil binding of less than 1.2 for clearance. Looking at these:https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hrs-98511/overview/ What retainers and lock should I go for? I think I'm needing .375 for the valve itself, correct? Thanks!

If you have stock valves then use the stock retainers.
You may have a problem with dampers if running stock valve seals. For single upgrade springs, Lunati 73126 will do fine, and COMP + others offer similar for that lift on stock valves, seals and retainers.

Those springs are bigger in diameter than needed, and may need work to fit the heads, but other than that meet your requirements. Pick a spring that fits the heads, and then the retainers that fit the springs and locks that fit both the retainers and valves.

Confused here. The springs I picked are smaller than what are listed to be exact replacements for the engine by isky. Howards are 1.485 According to isky, replacements are 1.54 https://iskycams.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=2133 Then rock auto lists 1.36-1.4 as replacements. Also specs a melling for their mta cam @1.5 What OD should I be looking for?

Gonna do positive seals on stock valves. Will this change anything?

Tell me if this looks like everything I'd need to do the valves and springs: Valves (8 of each-4groove style): Springs: Seals (positive style) Retainers (10 degree): locks (10 degree-4 groove): Big thanks to everyone so far in this journey |

The positive seals fit all the dampers made for an AMC as far as I know.
Your list looks fine for your purposes. I have seen dampers chew up original nylon seals, these being the largest diameter "stock" valve seals. I don't know what set of springs the person was using.

I always use positive seals if I have the heads off. I only use the umbrella seals if just wanting to do a valve seal quick fix. I have positive seals on my 4.0 and my 390. Not sure what's on the 73 as I didn't build that one - but a Big Mac says it's basic umbrella seals for as cheaply as the previous owner got the engine built. Do your positive seals and don't look back. I believe Trader is right on the fit - the positive seals will fit any AMC spring setup that I'm aware of. I've used them for decades. We machined and installed positive seals on every valve job or engine rebuild we did when I worked for a boss full time. |

Good deal. I'll get these and the roller rockers ordered. Any Idea on rocker stud length and how to determine what length I need?

I would do a engine mock up . Use adjustable pushrod checker for length, check rocker to retainer clearance , would be good time for clay on piston for valve to piston clearance.
