Have a look at Greyhounds posts and calculator.
With that rear gearing and a stock torque converter you are looking at 1600 to 1800 RPM for the bottom end of the cam. Not doing anything else, look for 0.470" to 0.480" lift. Do not go over 0.500" lift!!!
AMC's V8's like 110 to 112 separation.
If going with an asymmetrical grind, a little more exhaust is nice.
Get a cam that has 0.904" lobe width with lifters to match.
Happy hunting!

So what do you think of the 280H in my 360? (not that I put it in there - an engine builder in Wisconsin picked it and installed it years ago)
Oh, I have a 2500 converter and 3.15 (although I question the gears as high as it winds on the interstate)

Would contact Elgin Industries direct to try and get a cam & lifter kit,
but only a cam alone is currently listed on eBay by Falcon Global,
or maybe ask Falcon if they have a cam & lifter kit, Elgin Pro Stock E-912-P:

Elgin Pro Stock Catalog page:

Ah, found a Cam & Lifter Elgin E-912-PK Kit on eBay for about $160 Total with shipping:

Here on eBay Canada is a New AMC V8 Kit Elgin E-912-P Cam, Lifters, Pushrods, Valve Springs, Retainers, Locks, Timing Chain, & Gaskets Kit for $319 Total with free shipping....

280H is getting up there a bit Billd, probably want a bit of compression to get the most out of that. 270H might be a bit better choice for something that is mostly stock.

Have to agree with WesternRed on a stockish motor the 280H is a little much. I have had problems with Comp and narrow cam lobes so I try to avoid them, personal experience.
A duration of approximately 270 would be better stock build behavior on the street.
The 280H with a stock converter may be a little hard to handle if your driving in town or city. Personal opinion is to match the converter stall with the cam as you have done with yours Build.
Have no experience with the Elgin cams.

For street use you may want to consider the Edelbrock Performer Plus. 0.448 int./0.472 exh. with 110 lobe separation. About $240 with lifters included at Summit.

For a stock automatic street engine I usually look for 1400 to 5500 RPM. But that leaves many considerations for use and goals. Is the engine for higher RPM performance, rocking V8 sound, off the lights bat out of *ell or run up the middle for 2 out of three???

But you have to have all the associated package for the goals, e.g. power brakes need vacuum or other power brake options.

Off the top, for a stock 360 I would go with a Howards CL312481-11. But you will not get the hard thumping V8 sound out of this cam. Good performance through the RPM range though and still pulling past the advertised 5200 RPM, but then you get into valve float after 5200 RPM on stock valve springs. A little more to the lower RPM range, but have used this cam and on the stock converter it is very friendly.

Again, my opinion.

What's the rest of your combo for reference Billd, just curious really?

Back when my 360 had the factory 8.5:1 compression, stockish stall and 4.10 gears, going from a 270 duration Crane cam up to something with around 300 advertised duration but otherwise not too far off the 280H in other regards, it really killed the bottom end even though with upgraded valve springs I could turn it to higher RPM, so overall it ran slower in the 1/4 mile, definitely pushed the envelope a bit too far,

The same bigger cam with the compression now bumped up to 10.5:1, backyard port job, 3500 converter and a decent exhaust/headers has really made the car come alive as well as spin all the way to 6500 and beyond sometimes.

Next upgrade will be an even bigger solid flat tapped cam, actually less duration at 0.050" but bigger everywhere else.

Some people would probably argue that the 270H is too big for a stock low compression 360, so I think you really need to work out exactly what your objectives are.
