As said, the thread is 11/16-18 and same as Ford. The die will be expensive- I know I paid $30+ for mine 20 yrs ago. Ouch, it's now $74 on McMaster.

Good used strut rods aren't that expensive if they need to be replaced. I would place an ad in the wanted section.

the ford nuts are not a perfect solution, they are crimped to act as a locknut . so you can end up ruining the strut rod by running them on and adjusting them.

K4004 are for AMC as well as Ford and they are locknuts. That's the design. There needs to be some mechanism to stop the nut from turning as you drive.

They won't damage the thread on the strut rod unless you are doing something wrong.

I can also confirm the original AMC nuts were lock nuts as well. Any replacement needs to be a lock nut!

Yep. In addition, some years used an additional jam nut.
