How many gasket to hub heights for AMC V8?
I see two listed, any more? Having trouble getting the AC pulley to alien. Car is original, 73 AMX, 360, auto with factory AC. It has had the water pump changed in the past and I think the wrong hub height was installed. Idler pully and AC comp don't alain correctly. What is the correct water pump for the car?

As yours is 1973-up it should use the longer water pump of the two commonly available lengths. It should measure right around 4.875" with the gasket. The belt should come down off the AC compressor and be centered on the idler as it goes to the crank. If the inner belt correctly lines up with the crank, water pump, and alternator, then I would tend to think your issue is with the compressor pulley. Maybe it's the wrong AC clutch pulley or maybe the AC bracket is wrong (which seems like it would be hard).

Main reason why pump height at the snout is one of two things... either you have obtained a pre 73 pump or someone had swapped out a 72 engine, and has used the 72 water pump pulley, while dumping the original engine along with pump and pulley (not knowing any better). Unfortunately at a later time when replacing the pump with a proper one, the pulley will not align any more.
Here is a link to show the differences... http://theamcforum.com/forum/water-pump-info-circa-2019_topic99988.html |

This may help to determine what Pulleys you have and what they are for:

You can see that AMC/Jeep had a few combinations over the years and in subsequent years likely many swapping of parts. Add a few International numbers to the list and it just gets worse.
The pulleys have to align! If it's just the water pump and there is shaft length, I just go with spacers, Summit, Mr Gasket ... Down this road and you can hunt to no end, nothing wrong with using spacers to fit. Some you space out the pulley and machine back the extension to center the fan to the shroud. It's not "stock"or "restoration" but it works the best if originals cannot be found. My opinion.
