Can someone post a picture or diagram of the vacuum system for a 1971 360 with a 2 barrel carb and no EGR or canister system? When I bought my car the vacuum hose from the distributor was dangling in the wind. I'm trying to connect it up but need to know the routing and what they plug into. Thanks!

I'm thinking it goes either to the fitting at the front of the carb or to a CTO switch on the intake manifold (which is missing from my manifold).

My 71 2bbl 304 auto did not have a CTO switch. Only TCS on the coil bracket and temp switch on the upper radiator support.

Can you by chance take a picture of the TCS? I think my car is missing that part.

Here is the switched vacuum can that makes up for TCS. From what the images show in the previous reply, this is a component that is by an ambient temp switch near the radiator, and transmission. It has ben incorporated since the 70s into various emission comtrol AM engine setups, ranging to simple, without the single or dual CTO switch(s). Note in late 73 there was the use of two ambient temp switches to throw into the odd mix of controlling ignition.

Sorry, i forgot to mention, there is a round vent port used to keep debris from clogging the CTO vented vacuum line, on later engines. It runs from a port on a CTO, all the way up to the radiator support, up near where the abient temp switch is.

hmm, very confusing. I've looked at the diagram in the link above but that diagram shows an engine with an egr system. My engine is a 1971 so doesn't have an egr system. Im thinking without the egr system then the vacuum hose routing is more basic than in the diagram. Could the hose from the distributor go to the hose fitting on the passenger side of the carburetor? It seems to fit there perfectly because it has a pre-bent metal line that looks to be bent to route it that way.

Are you trying to do a factory routing of vacuum or just do a direct connection for the advance? I assumed your trying to restore, and gave some info... though i had a feeling the other info would be confusing and had to adjust my comments to explain that there are various methods of how the circuit is used with CTO switches.

There is none used in 71, and just think of the vacuum solenoid being the only part to route the vacuum line.
