A few months back I finished upgrading my  Ford 8.8 from a Ford Explorer completely rebuilt, 3:73 gears, shortened and installed. Only problem I ran into was unsure on how to install the shocks as the original AMC20 plates don't quite fit.

So my question is if anybody on here has done the forward 8.8 swap what was your fix for the shocks

I've done it different ways and all will work.
- cut the AMC20 plate in half, weld in a spacer, drill a new spring locator hole
- fabricate a new 3/16" plate, cut the shock mounts off the AMC20 and weld on the new plate
- used the 8.8 plate and welded the AMC20 shock mounts to it, this seems easier but on some cars (AMX, Javelin) the shock will interfere with the larger tube when mounting.

When I put the 8.8 in mine I bought new lower plates and put my own lower shock mounts on it. Here's a picture of it.

Got it I believe I have both the mount from the AMC20 and the mount from the 8.8  I can give that a go this week.

Did you have any interference with those new plates? And where did you pick them up I've seen a few on Amazon and eBay just unsure of which way to go.

No interference. I got them from some off road shop cheap and they're pretty thick and sturdy.  Having the increase in tube size and using bigger diameter U bolts, I didn't like having to elongate the holes on the stock plates that much. The studs for the shocks are universal ones.

This is the shock plate I used with my 8.8.  Perfect fit.
