What is the thickness of the stock 360 V8 flywheel? If it's been machined too much, will it cause the clutch to not disengage? Been trying to get the 360 V8 swap going in my CJ7 and can't get the clutch to disengage unless all the pedal freeplay is removed. Changed the clutch, PP and TO bearing and it does the same thing. I'm using the same linkage that the I6 used.
Thanks

Might get someone with a parts book to check part numbers on both the V8 and the 6 cylinder clutch linkages...you might find your answer there.

I'm sure the V-8 Jeeps used a bigger clutch. I believe the TO bearing was different too. The rest of the linkage should be the same. Is the ball in place under the arm, and do you have both springs in place on the TO arm?

I have the V8 clutch installed and it matches the old one I removed. TO bearing has both clips hooked to the arm. What do you think of the flywheel thickness theory?

Was the old clutch a step up diaphragm or a straight one. Some had a 3 finger type and will not release if changed. I have run across this same problem many times. Hope this helps you.

I don't see how surfacing the flywheel could alter the linkage angles enough to run out of adjustment.
If it did your problem should be the same as too thin a clutch disc, your clutch would slip .
I'd be looking at the differences between a 6 cylinders linkage and a V8.

Throwout bearing length ?   Pivot ball ? Adjustment shaft ?

" TO bearing has both clips hooked to the arm." Sounds like a Chrysler TO bearing. V8 yoke and TO bearing didn't use "clips" as I recall. Does the driven disk fit the tranny input shaft? Chrysler made a 360...

V8 Bells are about a 1/2" deeper . so they take a longer push rod from the Zbar .
Easy test . remove the spring from the push rod and fork lever. push the rod towards the front as far as possible. at the same time push the fork leaver rearward until it hits the pressure plate .If there is a space you will need a rod of that length .

It was the 3 finger design. It was also suggested that the pilot bushing is locking the input shaft to the crankshaft. The trans was easy to slide into position. The other thought was that the pilot bushing wasn't pushed in far enough. I'll pull the whole thing apart again, but I don't know what to look for now. I did loosen the 4 trans bolts to see if that would unlock it, but it didn't.
