I am replacing the floor insulation on my 69 AMX with reproduction kit from APD. Does the parking brake cable and the rear tail light wiring harness lay on top of the insulation or below it? Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

Now that I know this, it appears I will have to find it or get a new one from somewhere. I want to thank you for your time and knowledge. Taco

av1956, the floor insulation goes down first. "where is the black plastic piece that was under the scuff plate? " On my car there was only black 'masking tape' looking tape that held the wires under the scuff plate. The rear taillight harness runs down and inside the door hinge post and then under the scuff plate.

On my AMX's, the parking brake cable runs on top of the asphalt layer up to the kick up in the floor just in front of the front seat mounting brackets. It then goes thru a hole in the kick-up, with a very large plastic or hard rubber grommet. The aftermarket park brake cables have a large yellow grommet which will NOT fit into the factory hole in the floor, a little razor knife work and you can replace it with the original rubbery grommet. If you don't have an original grommet, a couple layers of rubber fuel line/heater hose type rubber will prevent water intrusion and rattling. From this point, the park brake cable goes under the body, IIRC it is attached to the body floor in several places with cable clamps on it's way to the left rear connection to the left/right rear axle brake cables. Not sure about the wiring bundle, but my best recollection is that it runs down the door hinge side under the kick panel trim down to the door sill trim. None of mine had any plastic under the sill trim, but there was a black paper isolator, similar to the door panel waterproofing sheet, between the door sill trim and the body sill with the wiring under that paper isolator. Good luck with your AMX. Terry Edited by TX390AMX - Oct/11/2019 at 9:27pm |
