My car is 4.5 to 5 mpg if I keep my foot out of it and goes down from there. The way I see it, one doesn't own an AMX or any other performance AMC to look for mileage. It is all about the power!

Whew! I'm talking to the wrong crowd. I'm just trying to have a car that runs 12s and gets 12 mpg while being a daily driver. I get about 9-10 mpg now. You're on an entirely different level!

Well, you just don't want to know my MPG then. Especially under throttle. I stopped measuring as MPG and started mearuing in GPM (gallons/minute) I can get about 100 miles on 15 gallons if I don't thrash on it too hard. I may be able to get 150 if I am really easy but with boost it is impossible to baby it unless cruising the interstate and I don't take it on long cruises down the interstate because it only runs on E85 and availability can be problematic. I guess I need a chase car to haul fuel or a couple jerry cans strapped to the back like mad max. If I drive it hard I get about 3 MPG. I was floored when I put the FiTech fuel flow on the gauge dashboard of the controller and watched the flow rate at WOT.

Shootist I feel you man. I have 15 gallon capacity and sport a 75 mile range. I don't have boost or FI so I keep expectations down. What is killing me is the loose torque convertor and 4:11 gear.

Ouch, today's crummy gas and a 15 gallon tank... that's rough on plans for a good trip away. Don't bother I80 through Nebraska. I am glad the Hornet wagon 22 gallon tank can be swapped out. With Shootist setup no matter what sized tank that would fit, I'd have a hard time with gas milage. Mwhahahahahahahahahaha! |

No E85 for me with my Fitech 600HP power adder set up (only four injectors on this model, to Shootist's 8). So far, 1000 miles into a fresh rebuild on my 401 I seem to be running between 11 to 15 mpg. It might improve slightly with time. With 3.73 gears, and a 0.62 overdrive I'm running 2200 rpm at 75 mph. The hornet I have has the 22 gallon tank. Hoping to do longer trips once everything is dialed in. I'm digging the idle quality, easy starts, and the constant info from the EFI.

Hey I do have to give an update. to my previous post. I actually checked my mileage now since changing to the TKO 5 speed with .63 OD. I am really shocked, I managed to get an amazing 8.5-9MPG!!! That is approaching Prius mileage. Ok maybe that is a bit overstated but cranking out the power I am and running E85 on top of that. I very pleased and seeing huge improvement over the 727. I am back to milage I got with the 360 and carb with 727 running gas. Oh, and that estimate was for a 42.2 mile in town trip with a few frisky interractions with the long skinny pedal. So if I took all things into consideration I would guess that I am seeing about 20-25% better fuel economy with a combination of the OD and FiTech. I can't say which one accounts for more (probably the OD) but not bad numbers all things considered my comparison is supercharged 401 running E85 getting the same economy as the previous 360 running gas.

That is great! You are getting most if from the 5 speed I suspect. If I could get 8.5-9mpg, I could make it to Orlando and drive mine to the track. |
