Jim,

It is one and the same.  After Matt's wife Val passed away he never felt the same about the car due to being so grateful for her 100% support of him getting the car 10 years ago.  He has told me more times than I can count that had it not been for Val, he never would have been able to have own the car in the first place let alone build that kick ass engine, so after she was gone it was always a bitter sweet feeling whenever he took the car out.

I first contacted Matt when I saw the car as a feature in the AIM magazine almost by accident many years ago and shortly after I had moved out to Phoenix.  At the time I told Matt that if he ever wanted to sell the car I would like to have first right of refusal.  He wasn't interested in selling the car and became good friends due to our mutual interest in AMCs  Although I strongly urged him to keep the car after he moved out here, it just wasn't in the cards for him so he took me up on my offer to buy the car and here we are. We are still great friends and he will be going with me next weekend to the Sedona show at the Blue Moon Saloon so although the car no longer sits in his garage, he will still get to enjoy it at shows and events that he has the time to go to.

I think Matt's greatest pride of owning the car is a large, very high quality print of the car by Danny Whitfield painting that now prominently resides in the lobby of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in memory of his wife Val (http://www.dannywhitfield.com/images/ITEM_22-A-2_1969_SC_RAMBLER_B-SCHEME-Raised_letters_copy.jpg).  Matt used to have a great slide show posted up on You Tube that played along with the song "Summer of 69" but it must have taken it down due to not having the rights to use the song Confused .

Here are some of the other clips Matt put up on the web:

He sure had fun with it!

Cry   Sorry to see Matt part with this car.Valeri and Matt were passionate about this car and what it stood for.I had made the "Summer of 69" video and removed it from YouTube because of copy right infringements. This video was made a little earlier with a different song.Take good care of the car and enjoy the video.(I will look for the other video)          http://videos.streetfire.net/video/Hurst-ScRambler_145156.htm

Ray,

BTW, you saw this car when it came in towards the end of the Phoenix show that you attended earlier this year.  When you next see it the torn basket weat material will be repaired, both bumpers will be replaced and it will have two new rear sneakers.  I am also putting in electronic ignition and will eventually put on the twin 450s.  I talked to the speed shop yesterday and that is what they recommended and he said he was unfamiliar with the 525s.  IIRC, Peter Curd has twin 525 on his inline dual quad intake.

I will probably get also get a pair of 600s or 650s if I ever take it to the track.

Dan, I remember it well! Nice meeting and chatting with Matt too. Our show is the first weekend in November. That's the weekend right after SEMA.  There is a thread in the "Upcoming Shows" section.

Hi everyone,
Dan  I'm  pleased you now own our SC/Rambler . I know it is in good hands and will give you many years of enjoyment as it did for me, Valeri and crazy Crayton. I look forward to still being part of the car at shows and when you take it to the track. I know this SC/Rambler will continue to give thrills to the new owner and all who see it just like is has  for the past forty years. Now I will get to watch and hear this true american muscle car as it burns rubber going up the road !!!

                                                                               Matt

Sorry we didn;t make it down to Sedona - hope the show went well.  We were having a "bit of weather" here in Flag - lots of wind, and I had to make sure the barn/garage addition didn't take flight. Ugh.
