Extended control arms on 71-74 Javelin?

Just for the sake of curiosity, I'm wondering if anyone here has extended both the upper and lower control arms for clearance/track width purposes. It seems that with the exception of of 18" plus diameter wheels, a wide wheel with a neutral backspace will hit the tie rod end before getting to the limit of the factory flare.

Would building a tubular set of control arms/extending and boxing in a set of factory control arms with ball joint centers 3/4" further out from factory cause any significant problems with the suspension geometry? Machining extra long tie rod adjusters to maintain a proper amount of thread engagement wouldn't be that big of any issue. 

Any thoughts?
