Just read through your thread, nice work looking fantastic. Are you using regular bubble wrap and spray adhesive? I never thought of that but I like that idea.. if that is what you are doing I may go that way with my project.

Buster, That is what is being done. Seems to be working well.
Time for another update. I decided to upgrade the look of the dash. Following are some pics of the upgrade. I am considering a Javelin decal to overlay on top of the carbon fiber. Maybe similiar in appearance to the original on the wood grain dash. It just wouldn't be raised or embossed as the originals were. The carbon fiber was from http://dragonplate.com/Default.asp. It wasn't cheap but I love the lenticular look of the carbon fiber depending upon the angle of viewing. I had mentioned that I have upgraded the heater box to a vintage air aftermarket unit. I am placing the electronic controls for that unit in the same spot as the original old slide controls. A little fine tuning left but the picture below is fitting that control where the original was and making up the difference in size with a sheetmetal overlayed with more carbon fiber. It was time to also decide on wiring. I decided to go with an aftermarket harness as I want to hide most of the wiring in the troughs for the front end. Using the stock harness would require purchasing a new reproduction and hacking it to pieces and adding in new wire to achieve the same thing, so I elected to go with a EZ wiring harness. This also gives me more circuits and a modern fuse box. Pictures of the spaghetti being laid out are below. I still have the original harness and can salvage some connectors as needed. |

Shane, I had already purchased a X-mat kit so I went with that but it only covered the floor from the front to the back seat. What a pain to work with also, so I went to lowes and purchased the same type bubble wrap you have. Wow paid $25.00 a fraction of the x-mat. I used it to cover the roof, inside the doors, rear quarter panels and everywhere else. What a difference so easy to work with and in my opinion much better. The next car I do I will use it through out great tip thank you.

It looks like it is time for my Biannual (plus one) yearly update on this project! A lot has been accomplished but she is still not completed. Baby steps will eventually get you there!
Last I left you we were doing wiring. All of the body wiring has been completed. All lights were swapped for LEDs from superbrightleds.com. The engine wiring is not completed yet but will be completed just prior to Engine installation. LED Headlights are from the same company as well. Modifications to the buckets were necessary to properly insert. I had purchased LED tail light bulbs from superbrightleds.com as well, but we have since had this product: developed thanks to the company that manufactured it and those here who helped drive that interest. I will be using their LED lights for the taillights. Already have the Electronic flasher installed since I had wired it to LED replacement bulbs anyway. One item of interest to note when I did the electronic flasher. (please note that my wiring harness if aftermarket so I can't promise it is the same for stock but may be something to check if you are having any problems installing LED bulbs) The polarity of the two jacks to the electronic flasher was opposite of the mechanical flasher. I created a new flasher by disassembling the mechanical flasher. Soldered on the electronic flasher rotated 180 degrees to reestablish correct polarity to the fuse box and created a new cap out of some scrap plastic to protect the soldered and exposed joint. If I find a picture of that later I will post it in here. We completed the interior carbon fiber by doing the armrest trim: Continued with the Vintage Air AC Evaporator fitting and installing. Also Trial fit a modified A pillar trim with and the dash with the carbon fiber overlays. The radio was sent out to Gary Tayman and had a full conversion of the factory AM radio to Bluetooth/modern AM/FM radio while retaining the outword appearance and style of the original radio. More info on his product can be found here: I decided I wanted a cleaner area under the hood and decided to move the battery to the trunk: It was then time to mock up the engine for the headers, exhaust, Steering linkage, Fuel system plumbing, Transmission with Gear Vendor Overdrive try in and modification of the tunnel. My Steering column is a tilt steering column. SC360(Joe) had swapped out the rare collapsable shaft AMC supplied with a splined shaft. We figured cutting up a rare part instead of using a GM part wasn't worth it. My linkage will look different than most AMC control freak conversions because of this. Parts different to attach were all sourced from flaming river. The T10 transmission with the gear Vendor overdrive was assembled: Transmission/Overdrive try in required some modification to the transmission tunnel after mounting the lakewood bellhousing to the mockup engine block. Modification was required primarily around the front inside bracket of the driver's side seat to make clearance for the speedogear. The transmission mount required modification and some boxing to move the attachment to the combined transmission overdrive unit. A custom driveshaft was measured and fabricated for use between the overdrive and the Ford 9" rear end (sorry no pictures of the driveshaft at this time) I have decided to fuel inject the 401 I had previously build. I purchased a Holley Sniper unit that has potential blow through capability (although I am not completely sold on the procharger yet. Better to be prepared than replacing expensive parts later). This was purchased prior to the Edelbrock announcement. Had I waited a little longer I probably would have gone for the new Edelbrock rail mounted EFI. This required rethinking my fuel supply to a higher PSI to support the fuel injection. I decided to try not modifying my fuel tank and wanted to use my stock fuel gauge sender so elected to instead use an external pump mounted on the lower main rails. I did have to drill and add a return line nub soldered to the stock sending unit for a fuel return. (Sorry no pics on hand of the modifications to the unit). Fuel tank was undercoated with bedliner style material. Fuel Prefilter from RobbMC Fuel pump mounted with rubber isolators to attempt to reduce noise: More to come on next post. This only brings us up to May 2019

The next step was finalizing exterior bodywork and getting ready to get some paint on this old girl. As of the new year trial fitting of all panels and accessories (trendsetters, Front and rear spoilers, Valance panels, and etc. was completed. Final sanding performed, and painting of other parts (Gear Vendor overdrive, Wheels, etc.)
The Gang at Streetmachines Autocare in Coudersport, PA. They do great work! I am involved in most everything else other than the bodywork side of this project. Masking performed to start the final paint with cutting in, the trunk, and under the hood We painted the Gear Vendor overdrive and wheels (I know stock the transmission was natural cast but I think the metallic amc blue throughout the Engine to Overdrive will look good against my chosen color, and it is a restomod.) The next post will show the paint choice I made up to today. If you have read through this thread you will notice that I have been conflicted on choosing a color. The color selected was ........ Not either (technically). I love the Bittersweet orange color and my choice trended towards that but I did not use a stock color or a alternate manufacturer color. I chose to instead go with a custom color. The paint is a Candy Orange Pearl The silver base coat for the candy orange pearl exterior : Final Color (still needs polishing and final clear coats after stripe is painted) Pictures of outside to get a better view of the pearl Close ups: That brings us up to date. I am beyond excited after all these years to be almost ready to reassemble. Plus I have time due to the Coronavirus social distancing shutting down most of my work to put towards it.

What did you use for bso? I have seen some use a dodge colour for it.
