As you might all remember I`m the one who started this topic when I had the problem with my 59 American.Well after 3 different carburetors and 2 fuel pumps ( after the first new fuel pump I thought I had the problem licked but after 2 weeks the car again started bucking so I replaced the fuel pump with another with no luck) the problem ended up being the points which  had about 800 miles on them.We removed the cap and there was a gray powdery haze inside the cap.I installed a pertronix setup and it runs like a champ.Last night I regapped the plugs and took it for a ride, as I made a left hand turn I heard a clunk so I pulled off the road. I opened the hood and found my radiator had sprung a leak, thats when I realized I had left the plug gapper on the battery and when I made the turn it slid off the battery and hit the fan which in turn threw it into the radiator. The radiator is now at the radiator repair shop getting fixed. Some days its not even worth getting out of bed in the morning.Ouch

How did points do that?  I guess theyre really cheap since they are new.  Are you sure it wasnt condensor?  Sorry about radiator. youll love the pertonix and be ahead of the game with them.

No,I`m really not 100% sure it was the points and not the condenser but the points looked a little funny.Whatever it was I hope the problem is gone for good.

Im pretty sure it was condensor...they can act fine, and cut up later.  I can only imagine how bad point sets are made now.  They started their decline 25 years ago...and now with china.
