OK everyone has their favorite when it comes to engine gaskets. Let's hear it for:
 
HEAD GASKETS?   COMETIC, FEL PRO ???
 
HEADERS:   REMFLEX?

For your needs... cometic head gaskets, and felpro for the rest. May cost a wee more with separate kits, but depending on sale items, you can probably get them all for about the same price as a full kit.

I always use a pan gasket for intakes, and it beings up the price a bit for any kit provider.

I have never use the COMETIC gaskets but hear they are good.  Then again I have been putting AMC motors together since 1975 using FELPRO.  I am also old fashion in that I coat both sides of the head gasket with multiple coats of COPPERCOAT spray. Probably not needed but have not had a head gasket fail ever.
 
For the guys using the COMETIC gaskets are you coating them or using them dry?

I too have always used copper spay coated both sides of felpro head gaskets, since the builders i worked at in my college years did them that way.

Cometic from what i gather are not stamped steel, so i am guessing they probably go on dry and seal and cure after engine gets to operational temp.

I have yet to get into the nitty gritty with my 70 390 build, but have copper gaskets and extra head bolts and O rings for the race prepped block, which i plan on 11.25 compression. I guess i could skip the o rings, but i am using what i got, after all, i did have a stock 304 head gasket go on me, and wouldnt want that again.

I am sure someone here would state exactly how cometic gaskets are done properly for race engines.

By the way, i thought you had your engine all done? Or did it let go in a bad way?

I have used the Cometic head gaskets on my 401. They are supposed to be installed dry, and that is how I installed mine.
However, I know of many people that use copper coat on them anyways without issues.

I've used Fel-Pro head gaskets on engines up to 11:1 compression without any failures.  I generally just coat the steel side with copper spray.  I have Remflex header gaskets on my AMX and they've never leaked or loosened.

Hey Bob, we think alike.  The REMFLEX header gaskets are by far the best ones.
 
Might just stick with the FELPRO since I never had any issues.  Glad to see that I am not the only
COPPER SPRAYER in the group. I guess its cheap insurance.
 
Ok on the VALLEY TRAY. Stock one is best choice since the tray actually serves a function unless its a drag race only setup.  With the Crossram there are no crossovers, but with other intakes like the Torker and Performer there are so how are you guys blocking the passage ways?  Too bad no on makes a valley tray type with the crossovers already blocked.

Hey Joe
Since having a FelPro head gasket fail on a fresh engine I have been using Rol high heat graphite head gaskets and have had no problems. I had always used Copper Coat on head gaskets, but with the Rol graphite head gaskets (according to the engineers) you "should not" use any extra sealers on graphite head gaskets.
Back in the day the 1/8" thick Remflex type header gaskets would have been great to have with most of the headers on the market being lower quality and the port flanges only 1/4" thick. Some headers needed that band aid for sure. Now days we have higher quality headers available that use thick port flanges and that don't need extra thick gaskets to be able to properly seal.
I use SMI HTX-900 graphite header gaskets. We have a couple of long term test vehicles on the road that have had these header gaskets on for over 15 years now and no exhaust leaks.
 
I use the OE type valley pan when I can. If I need to block the heat crossover I cut out a piece of on old valley pan to block them off. 
Back in the day AMC actually offered an intake valley pan gasket that had the heat crossover ports blocked off. IMO, it would be nice if FelPro would offer the heat blocker valley pan today.

I made Choke Exhaust Heat Crossover Valley Pan Gasket Block-Offs out of pieces
of galvanized Dryer Duct of a size that was between the 2 seal beads on the valley pan.
Glued in place with silicone, they were in there for years and were fine.
Also copper coated both sides of the FelPro Gaskets, but assembled only 3 motors, ~10:1.
FelPro own gasket inserts seem to contradict themsleves...
Also there used to be 2 AMC FelPro Engine Gasket Sets with a significant price difference.
The lower cost one has all the gaskets I needed where the other had more.
Neither come with the valley pan as we all know.
If 1/2" Head Bolts TRIM out the little locator hole "nubs", do NOT let them bend out of the way.
Gasket Cost info from about 2005 or so:
$100 FS8266-PT4 = Entire stock engine kit, ex man doughnuts, etc.
$50  260-1151   = non-stock main engine kit, no ex manifold doughnuts, etc
     KS 2001    = same as above, 2nd part number
     WS 2001    = same as above, 3rd part number
$25 MS 96011    = Fel-Pro Intake Valley Pan
$28 2604008     = SEALED POWER Part Number for AMC Intake Valley Pan
