Just wondering if you guys think there is a market for a better quality AMC V8 timing cover than what is currently offered on the market?
Without getting too far away from the stock timing cover design what improvements/upgrades would you like to see made? Thanks for your input! Dennis |

A precision made cover!!!!! come with correct thin oil filter adapter gasket. Last version where you can change the seal without pulling cover...but I am a more stock guy....not sure what Ken Parkman or others might have in mind!!!

Matt C at Bull Tear was talking about doing a billet aluminum timing cover at one time. I'd check with Matt and see if he's doing any thing. No sense in reinventing the wheel twice. LRDaum

Thanks for the input so far guys! They (Indy) sure don't have much (anything) on their website about that timing cover. All I saw was that one little picture next to all the talk about their heads, but nothing about the timming cover! Did they ever actually make this timing cover?? Anyone know how what makes it better than a stock one? Dennis |

Billet would probably put us way out of the market and since we own an aluminum foundry we can cast things like this. We are just looking into the possibilities of doing a high quality, affordable replacement timing cover that everyone can use, not so much a race part. Thanks Dennis |

An Edelbrock-quality timing cover would be nice ... one you could bolt-on and go.
A few wish list items: - porting enlarged, matched to gasket (stock covers have lots of casting draft, restricting the ports) - extra timing marks - crank seal can be removed w/o removing cover (like later covers) - surface treatment of pump cavity to extend life - no big chamfer on the pump cavity edge - cast-in relief groove at gear overlap - work with standard Melling K-85 kit or an equivalent Edelbrock kit - cam button for roller cams (bronze or steel insert would be nice for using a polished distributor gear bolt head to limit cam endplay ... externally adjustable w/ water pump removed would be nice) - integrated -12AN port for external oil pickup (plug if not wanted) - ability to mount crank trigger - notched for better oil drainage A quality pump cover would also have appeal. A few wish-list items: - filter adapter thread to suit a Ford-style (PH8A) or equivalent filter w/ built-in bypass ... Mopar used these adapters on later 6 cyl and can fit early pump covers. - no filter bypass (use a filter w/ built-in bypass) - enlarged oil passages - adjustable oil pump relief (with limits) - 1/8NPT pressure gauge port - integrated -12AN port for external oil pickup (if can't achieve good plumbing access incorporating into timing cover) - porting to connect to an oil cooler - surface treatment of pump mating surface to extend life Thanks a bunch for considering making these RD. |

I would love a Edelbrock quality US made cover that was just accurately machined. Would it be possible to put some kind of high wear coating on the inside of the pump cavity? Or maybe cast in a steel liner like a cylinder liner in an aluminum block?

I'll add one thing - don't have the idler pin showing outside of the casting to eliminate an oil leak as they get miles on them.

I would settle for a unit that worked just like an original, but the suggestion from red devil is nice. I applaud Bull tear for all his efforts but a quality American made unit that was at a reasonable price would be great. Even with all the work Bull tear does, I was still not 100% happy. No fault of his. you can only polish a turd so much. If Edelbrock did one and the price was competitive, it would stop the over sea production junk in pretty quickly.
My 2 cents for now
