Basically-this is not an easy or cheap build...

Yeah it's ridiculous but that's what makes it fun
Using this supercharger with the 4.0L is well worn territory so there's lots of documentation
I only have to replicate previous projects with some adjustments like the extra 2lbs of boost and extra 16 cu.in.
I like difficult, tedious, technical projects which is something I like about working on AMCs

Not rediculous at all. I'm looking forward to seeing your build...

The project marches on...
I grabbed this '00 4.0L from the junk yard for the intake and belt system
The improved intake, starting in '99, is much better flowing than the old "log style". The 60mm throttle body looks pretty big at over 2" but from my calculations I want a 68mm like from a 1999-02 4.7L Dodge Truck/Jeep.
The '00 head casting is 0331 which is maligned as having smaller ports and being prone to cracking.
My 258 has the first Renix 4.0 head casting, 2686.
The 2686 and 7120 have large ports and I'd assume are best for forced induction
I've heard the 0630 has the best flow for NA daily driver applications
2686 '87-90
7120 '91-95
0630 '96-99
0331 '00-06
According to this theory, that means one year, 1999, has the best intake and head casting for an AMC fuel injection conversion in a daily driver.
But check it out for yourself if you are considering a 4.0 head conversion:
http://www.enginebuildermag.com/2004/10/not-those-jeeps-again-the-facts-about-4-0l-cylinder-heads/

I'm hoping the belts will bolt up on the 258 with just that crank snout spacer but we'll see...
Also the fan was moved off the water pump for the 4.0L and an electric fan the same size put next to it. I should probably grab that with a '91-95 wiring harness next time

The supercharger will be taking the place of the A/C compressor

The intake and dual exhaust manifolds both came about in '99

Here you can see the intake mounted power steering pump

Got pretty much everything I need off the long block

In 2001, the Jeep/Dodge 4.7L throttle body switched from 65mm to 68mm. This is about the size I want and the wiring connectors are the same as the 60mm TB from the 4.0L

I'm going to make an adapter out of aluminum, so I can bolt the above TB to the Eaton supercharger inlet

Below is one placement. The supercharger is too high up since I don't want to cut the hood. I have a 258 in my Hornet now with the HEI and that definitely has to go to get the supercharger tucked in better.
Having the throttle body on that side is fine... there's room for a cone filter near the window washer reservoir

Below is what it looks like to turn the output towards the inlet. I think the output could be modified to have a quick 90 bend down next to the inlet. They'd be very close together, but if the plumbing works, this would be a very compact and convenient setup

Here is another orientation that has the throttle body pointing down. The input and output, if they can be put right next to eachother, would be pointing toward a cold air intake and intercooler respectively.

There's a huge space for an intercooler so that's cool

Back to the 2000 4.0L:
The AMC six is often a greasy beast but this looks excessive

Looks like someone's been putting chocolate ice cream in the engine Wink
Oh wait that's oil and rusty coolant in the crank case. Blown head gasket?

The head and head gasket seem OK

Hmm there's something missing here LOL!!
Good thing I wasn't planning on using this block

Wow
Gaping holes in the sleeve

Look at the twist in this connecting rod

I think this is going to have to be scrapped
