Sorry, had a bad day...some body broke into my house and the only think he took was my TV Channel Selector. Now the son of female doggy keeps riding up and down my street changing my TV Chanels as he passes by.

if it vibrates coasting/decelleration vs. accelleration almost certainly it's just U-joints. change both, there's no savings to change only one.
at some point the yokes themselves wear out -- the holes bell, the bearing caps aren't as tight as before. when things get old enough the damnedest things wear out. metal is metal. sometimes some idiot at a tire shop or whatever will jack the car on driveshaft, torque tube braces, suspension lower arms, etc. 50 years provides a lot of opportunity!

I had a semi decent used Uni joint laying around, so I just chucked that in to get me back on the road. The car doesn't get driven much, so it may well see me out. Cheapskate I know, but at least the vibration is gone for now.
