My 69 Javelin seems to have developed a noticeable vibration when you lift off in top gear and the driveline is in overrun. It might be happening in other gears, but it's not really noticeable. This is with a BW M11B auto. Any thoughts on what might be causing this? I haven't really had time to have a good look at it yet.

First thing I'd check would be your Universal Joints?

Wheel balance weights may be the cause

As has been said I would look at u joints. Also motor and trans mounts. Leaf spring bushings or u bolts that hold the diff to the springs that are loose can cause problems.

Wheel balance would typically show vibration all the time. Likely u-joints, u-joint angles, or rear suspension mounting problems.

Vibes on overrun - I'd start with the rear u/j.

Just so I understand completely, your term "overrun" is what this side of the pond might call "coast"? |

While checking the U-joints also look at the driveshaft as well for lost balance weights and dents. Ask yourself when this started and did anything unusual happen or did you change anything? My Dad dented a driveshaft after going over a dead coon on the road. Just do a detailed inspection - including the U-joints as stated above.

Overrun/coast, more or less the same thing.
Will start with the uni joints, that was my initial thought too. Not sure when it started, but does seem to be getting progressively worse over time. |
