Hi Don,
I'm sure there are others running drag shocks on the early cars.
Are you looking for drag only or street / strip?
On my 73, I'm running Viking Warrior Double adjustable shocks on the front & rear.
I can adjust them for the street or track. I could not get the  Rancho / Caltrak single adjustable
to work on the rear for me.  These did the  trick.
My car is not a full time track car, maybe 2-3 times a year.

They list the early cars also and track only options.

Get a drag shock with a stud on top and an eyelet on bottom and fabricate a u-shaped adaptor and it will bolt to the factory hole in the lower control arm. Check ot the article on Jack Kechams Rambler for pic.

Apparently, no matter what 'drag race front shocks' you put on, you won't be able to notice much improvement until you do something to reduce dampening effect caused by the stock rubber control arm bushings. -you won't get your bang-for-the-buck from the shocks: the bushings are basically too stiff.

Here is one link to company who makes spherical bushing kits for most of our favorite AM cars:

I'd like to try making aluminum upper control arm bushings -with grease fittings and lube passageways etc.

Something I've only read about in the past (and they were saying drag strip tech forbid the mod) is to install tractor lift arm balls on the strut rods (weld the ball surround onto the strut rod bracket) then I could make greasable aluminum bushing pivots for the lower control arm too...
