I have a distributor #111106 and date coded 6M15, which I believe is Dec 66. It has a pole piece #724. I suspect it is out of a 67 290.

My car being a very early build 70 390 AMX, it came with the dual vacuum advance. I'm sure after 50 years it is shot, and don't believe they are available anywhere. What are others doing in this case, just replacing it with the single line vacuum advance?
1111987 distributor 9F30 is the date code on it, whatever that number means

There was an AMC dual point distributor, if you went the dealer installed route. Some dual point designs reduced point bounce and others were to increase the dwell time for each firing. The AMC unit was built by Mallory and reduced point bounce.
I think the poster above is actually not referring to points but to the dual diaphram vacuum unit that was used in 1970 model year 390's produced before September 26/69. Chris |

You are right, my mistake!
It is interesting though, the part # looks like an AMC/Delco distributor number, but they did not have dual points. Wonder what it is? Chris |

Fri Apr 06, 2018, Chart Updated Add (1) Pole Piece # for 111106
Thank You ccowx for the 111106 Pole Piece info, and all others.
DoughertyAMX: I was unable to find any Dual Diaphragm Vac Advance availability or even any obsolete aftermarket "Interchange" part no. info... 1970 390 Dual Diaphragm Vacuum Advance Canister: Vacuum Advance AMC Part # = 1973426, Last 3 appear on Unit. Do you already have the SPECS for that Original Dual Vac Adv Can? The Dual Point question: Hmmm, wonder if the "Point Plate" from a Dual-Point CHEVY Delco Distributor was used by an innovative AMC Hot Rodder in his AMC Casting Delco Distributor? Although, as previously pictured, completely different configuration between the two PLATES in terms of the Single Point Plate... Would be surprised if the Mallory Point Plate would fit? Dual points were to increase DWELL time and coil charge time, not to do with point bounce..
It helped saturate the coil for a longer spark at high RPM when the dwell TIME (NOT degrees) was short. Dual points allowed higher RPM engines to have a more saturated coil as it allowed the coil to "charge" longer (time, not degrees) |
