That's a really good idea! Embarrassed I'm interested in this. It will most likely be a flat end crank unless it's a billet product but WOW! I'm usually working with the volcano end version so I hope that's the case. It might be possible to work with if I can get the crank neutral balanced and mill out the pilot hole to modern spec for the type of manual transmission I have in mind but a high flowing 273 is a high HP high torque screamer! I could flog 680HP out of that @10K. It would peak 420lb-ft but it would be the longest valley in the rpm band. Probably between 6500-7500. All of this before bolting up a shiny new 10-71!

we run a local heads up NA class that below 320 cubes doesn't have a minimum weight and i was trying to think of a way to make get a 4.08-4.12 bore block under 320 cubes take a 290 crank and offset grind destroke it to use 1.85 journal nascar rods would leave you with a 3.04 inch stroke maybe with some welding get that down to 3.00 2.99 put some good heads on top of it and make power at 8500rpm or so at 319 cubes.

That would be a fun autocross engine to run screaming the entire way around a course.

Too bad 320 CID is a tough size to get an AMC to, because that sounds like a fun class.

There were some "flat plane" Indy Car cranks that were built for AMC's Indy effort,
but that engine was 209" and I think the cranks were around 2.5" stroke.

Even with a 401 block they'd be too small.

Too bad, because I don't think many people have ever found a use for them beyond as a giant paperweight.

Looks like the Indy crank was just 2.36"! (and flat plane/needs a custom cam + strange balancer & maybe other "issues")

Even with a .030" over 401 block it would just be 261 cubes lol

What a screamer tho!

I've got a 290/343 crank that's got a bad journal but it's cast if you need one to play with

290 block with a 390 crank is 315. With a 401 crank it's a 324.9 .

I think the idea being discussed here is a SHORT stroke crank, specifically an offset ground 290 crank in a bigger bore block for a quick, high revving small displacement V8.
