I know this is dredging a post from the past, but is there any desmogging articles out there? I live in Nova Scotia, Canada and we don't have those laws here (yay!) so I wanted to remove some of the shoddy old lines from my 85 Eagle to clean it up a bit.

My brother has a 50 Plymouth coupe and says the local guys told him it was one of the cleanest cars they had tested.
My early 232 purrs like a kitten and gets good fuel economy.
I think that 70's and maybe early 80's stuff was a step backwards.

In my humble opinion, smog controls and all of the computer stuff on cars now was put in place because too many people ran their cars way too long between tuneups which caused them to pollute. When I put the 304 in the '83 Spirit, NJ required catalytic converters for inspection. I didn't have them and they would even put the emmissions sensor in the exhaust pipe. I dared them to but they refused. The car was well tuned and I am sure not polluting but I still had to go back to Midas and get 2 CCs put on the car so it would pass inspection.

Even now you get behind a car that is dragging around a dead CC and you can smell it.

I run my '87 MJ (Comanche) and Eagle with just the cat cannisters in the line for looks. They passed the E-test without trickery and that was after I removed the AIR pump and other junk. The things I kept were the EGR valve (went universal and use the smallest port), the charcoal cannister (so I and others don't have to breath the raw fumes) and the heat riser to keep the throttlebody/carb from icing in winter.

I still have the air pump from the Eagle and it's miles of hose and stuff (thankfully it came with a non-computer BBD carb, so it runs just fine) and that is on the for sale pile (until I run out of time, when it will be loaded in the 5 ton and sent to the crushers along with several tons of other parts/scrap)
