I am putting  a delco alternator on my 68 rebel 343v8.  I have most of the wiring done but one question.  the two wire plug that goes into the alternator, where should I hook up the red wire too.  right now I have it hooked to alternator output stud.  is that okay?

The answer is right there in the text -
The #1 terminal on the GM alternator is what "excites" the alternator and will operate the dash "charge indicator" light - it is source from the ignition switch through the dash ALT light bulb, then to the #1 terminal on the alternator. (a 10 ohm resister is also often used in parallel with the bulb in case of bulb burnout so it will still be "excited" and charge)
Note where the orange wire comes from on the AMC wiring harness - from the ignition switch through the dash ALT bulb. The orange wire as it connects to the Motorola alternator could be connected to the #1 terminal on the GM alternator. (disconnect the Motorola regulator first, however)

The #2 terminal on the GM alternator is the "voltage sensing lead" and should connect to a junction block very near the battery - not back to the output post on the alternator, but on the battery side of the starter solenoid in the case of the AMC wiring. The reason for the location near the battery is to get a true sense of the load placed on the electrical system, and not be "fooled" by connection resistance or voltage drops in the wiring. It will be much more accurate run closer to the battery.

Yes, to the starter relay where the positive battery cable connects.

The other responses were, IMO, excellent.
