After having eight knee operations between both knees I find it necessary to have CC on my cars to help prevent pain and aches.  Has anybody had a good experience with installing an aftermarket CC?  I think I would prefer the electronic kind that uses a speed sensor and not magnets.  Looking for ideas and don't want to run into the same pitfalls others may have had.  Right now I am looking for my 74 Jav but next year will also be looking for my 69 Ambo.  If there is already a thread on this I could not find it with the search function.

Rostra is the way to go. (or a Dakota Digital, same thing) If you get the kit with a GM handle, it will look stock in your car. No vacuum needed. I had one in my Javelin and it works great. Get the kit with a GM handle and GM trans as the speed signal generator will screw right on to your 727 or 904.

Here's the DD kit you would need. http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=46/category_id=477/mode=prod/prd46.htm

I know you don't want magnets, but I used one like this with magnets about 8 years ago on my 67 Rogue convertible and 30,000 miles later it still works perfectly.

The magnets just activate a VSS. Most aftermarket cruise controls now use the VSS in the car. Doesn't help us with older vehicles! Some have a magnet kit or an alternate VSS that can be ordered separately. I think the CC in my Classic has gone bad and I need to get another, but want to try changing the signal generator first. I've had 2-3 that had magnets and never a problem with them. The Rostra units look good, but $280-300 to complete. The $199 "kit" doesn't have a switch or speed sensor. $40-50 for a switch, another $40-50 for a speed sensor. Rostra can use a crew in type sensor or magnets. Needs a pulse divider for some of the newer vehicles to use the stock VSS, which is about $70. That vacuum unit posted above looks like it has a dash switch instead of a stalk type. I wanted to keep my stalk switch, but may have to change it for the money. I wonder if the Rostra will use my Audivox (at least I think that's what it is) switch?

Ok, I am installing the CC and the pulse generator looks totally different from the cable hookup to the tranny.   They sent SEN-01-1 with my CRS-2000 kit.  Should it be a different generator or will it all work when I pull the gear head out of the tranny?

You have the wrong sensor. You need the pass thru unit SEN-01-4160 like this http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=57/category_id=478/mode=prod/prd57.htm
This will screw right on and allow you hook your cable to it. No need to remove your adapter from the trans.

OK, maybe I am dense (well that is an understatement) but I do not see where anything screws in.  The cable is held in by a retaining ring and the whole assembly is held in by a retainer not screwed in.  What am I not seeing.

I think you're looking at the wrong end. Doesn't that 2nd type of adapter mount at the instrument cluster? Looks that way to me.

I thought of that too but the directions clearly inentify the threaded connector on the tranny as the mounting point.  The cable snaps onto the speedo at the cluster and does not screw on.  Besides, the speedo is flush against the AC duct so there would be no room to mount the pulse generator.  Guess I may have to go with magnets but have an email into DD and will call tomorrow if I don't hear anything.  Thanks
