So I put a 390 out of an AMX into my 83 J20. I have run into some slight issues. Last night I put all my accessories on (alternator, power steering pump) and the crankshaft pulley on. But the crankshaft pulley for the 390 only has 2 belt grooves and my old 360 one has 3 belt grooves. Also the pulleys are different heights, so the belts do not line up that great with the original pulleys on alternator and power steering. I am wondering if the 401 crank shaft pulleys would be the same as the 390 pulley where it bolts onto the damper but still have the right height of what I need for it to work with all the new style accessories.? any ideas would be helpful.

thanks

Unless it is a different bolt pattern you can simply use the pulley for the 360 on the 390.

it is a different bolt pattern. The 360 has a much larger center hole and bolts on with 4 bolts. the 390 one only bolts on with 3. The harmonic balancers are different.

The problem is the change in AMC brackets from Motorola to higher amperage Delco alts changed the pulley offset plus number of belts and they also went from 3 bolt to 4 bolt pulleys at the same time.
