Many of the older transmissions that natively bolt to the V8 appear to have been deprecated after mid-71 engines started production with the later cast cranks. What is the outer spec on those older cranks vs the newer ones? I don't have a newer V8 crank but am likely to acquire one at some point for part of my next build that will be getting a more modern transmission. So far all I've been able to assume is that the later crank is the same spec as the Jeep L6. Is this true?

If you have a I from 72 on up... the crank ends should be the same, since 304 and I6 engines mated to the same automatic.

If you plan on machining a crank to accept the TC converter, i suggest obtaining a copy of Performance American Style. It has all the info on what needs to be done with previous 72 cranks.
71 Javelin SST body
390 69 crank, 70 block & heads
NASCAR SB2 rods & pistons
78 Jeep TH400 w/ 2.76 Low
50/50 Ford-AMC Suspension
79 F150 rear & 8.8 axles
Ford Racing 3.25 gears & 9" /w Detroit locker

I have a 29/29 spline input and stator on my FMX. I'm looking for converter options of the high stall variety but I'm hung up on pilot sizes and bolt circles. I can poke around on GoPNH and Summit all day and it's still a mess. My old converter is going back in for now but I'm definitely looking at swapping in one of these converters prior to a modern engine/trans swap:
GoPNH 2106: 11.50" bc / 1.848" pilot CRUISEOMATIC
GoPNH 2109: ??.??" bc / 1.572" pilot CRUISEOMATIC
GoPNH 2115: ??.??" bc / 1.375" pilot CRUISEOMATIC
GoPNH 2116: 11.50" bc / 1.848" pilot CRUISEOMATIC
GoPNH 2117: 11.50" bc / 1.375" pilot CRUISEOMATIC
GoPNH 2118: 11.50" bc / 1.848" pilot FMX
GoPNH 2119: 11.50" bc / 1.375" pilot FMX
