I don't mean this to be sarcastic. The internal combustion engine is a air pump, intakes, compresses it, and exhausts it. I think a technical service manual and some time invested will make your experience more enjoyable and the questions and answers more understandable. The dog legs are the exhaust ports, the tunnel ram goes on top to intake air and mix with fuel.

I believe his response was from not knowing if the intake is drilled for old heads or new as they are different, not from not knowing what side the intake goes on. Hehas a pretty good idea

anyone ever considered one of the old ford reverse teardrop scoops on a flat hood before.....?
like the one off a ford thunderbolt type.. i ask because the contours of that scoop seems like theyd blend with the 71 humpsters body lines.. |

AMC motors are little different than other V8's, yes a tunnel ram will work.
And you can make them streetable. The only issue as I see it is there are none available. You either make one (I am building my own) or find an old Edelbrock UR11 as I remember???? Anyway the issues of using a tunnelram are more imagined than real. Properly tuned they run quite well on the street. Since your "Dog leg" heads flow better than any cast SB Chevy head (as cast) I do not see an issue other than the reality that you will never make use of the high end of the manifold's capability. Without sitting the carbs up through the hood the longest intake runner you can build in is about 7" unless you opt for a cross ram. Options are build or purchase a old tunnelram, a cross ram or build a short runner mini plenum tunnelram. I prefer a low profile miniram design. To clarify things, I measure overall runner length from the intake valve center line. Edited by Boris Badanov - Apr/24/2014 at 5:39pm |
