When I bought my 67 American, it had what most would call a "way out there" interior. Its orange and burgundy... I was thinking I could always change it later. Does anyone have any idea or experience in changing it?

If the materials are in good condition possibly they can be recolored using the SEM products. Or, take it to a local auto interior shop and see what they say about making new seat covers, door panels and anything else it needs.

Depends on what you want. If you want it to be stock the SEM material can be expensive, and you'll have to find an upholsterer.
Check out LeBaron Bonney (http://www.lebaronbonney.com/index.htm). They only have the popular models listed in their catalogs, but can make pull over covers or replacement (take old covers off first) upholstery kits for almost anything. You'll have to inquire as to price, but they run $300-700 per row of seats (buckets count as a "row"), depending on material and style. Another company (might be related to LB) is Automotive Interiors & Accessories, Inc. (http://www.automotiveinteriors.com/). They have factory original (have to inquire) and "custom tailored" interiors. The custom tailored are the best value, running $300-400 per row, depending on the options you chose. I've used these before. You can get a period looking quality seat cover fro a good price. They have several styles and options, you choose in their on-line app and it totals the price as you go. Put in some buckets with head rests and came up with $395 + $28 S&H. Can't get a shop to make covers for that! Edited by farna - Nov/27/2015 at 8:38am |

I'm going to try and post a pic of mine. The front seats are buckets from something, but I don't know what. The rear may have been fabricated, because the top of the back seat sits above the back deck by 2-3 inches. I bought the car because it was so CRAZY different, and I love driving it, so I don't think I would ever sell it.

When I decided to can the bench seat in my 63 Classic for buckets, I went to the local pick-n-pull and went shopping -- after taking measurements of the original seat width. I was thinking low square back buckets from one of the K-car derivatives. Eagle Premier was near perfect, even used the console! I have a little more room between console and seats, but that's all. Had to make a bracket or two and drill holes in the floor to mount the six way power seats, but it was worth it! I reshaped the rear seat to fit as well. Had to cut the rear corners of the bottom to fit around the wheel well. Cut the hog rings, peeled back the upholstery, cut the corners of the wire frame, trimmed the foam (it was nothing but a heavy wire frame and foam!), then pulled upholstery back over, tucked where needed, and hog ringed back in place. Made some little brackets for the seat bottom so it pops in like it did in the Premier. So it got AMC (related) seats -- totally by coincidence!

My Rogue pictured above with the Firebird seats; front were installed as is and the rear I had to shorten the back about 4-inches.
