Hi Guys, tomorrow I am doing a compression check on my 1967 amc 550 wagon

232 sb carb with 78k (could be 178k I do not know.) I have never done one before so any advice would be good. What kind of numbers should I be looking for?

Thanks!

I'd say anything better than 125 with the throttle blocked open.

I am sorry could you explain "throttle blocked open."

I watched a YouTube video that said to let the engine warm up for about 5 min,

remove a the spark plugs and run the test on each cylinder. is this correct?

Thanks!

That's fine, but remove the throttle spring and hold it (throttle) wide open or have a helper do it from inside the car

Thats correct .  Remove all the sparkplugs,  and block the throttle fully open at the carb, or put something on the footpedal inside.

Just think,  if you don't block the throttle open,  the engine will be trying to pull air thru a closed throttle plate,  that would make the compression numbers low.

I shouldn't have to add this,  but remember,  when you're through with the test,  to undo whatever method you used to block that throttle open,  or you be real unhappy with the result.
