You'd be better off replacing your rear leaf springs, if they are worn or original. The leaf springs on a javelin or AMX support the ENTIRE car, not just the rear. The fron will come up as well if you replace them, it will really help with header clearance. My headers would scrape backing out of the garage but when I replaced the leaf springs it fixed it, and that was well before I rebuilt my front end.

Well the problem was actually caused by me Haha. I cut the front springs and put some aluminum blocks in the rear to lower the whole car. The rear turned out perfect hight, the front is a little too low for my liking now. Looks cool but is really just too low and irritating. I'm avoiding having to buy new springs and doing the cutting proccess again

AMC did make coil spring spacers that would work for you. My brothers 67 had them in one side when he got it. He replaced the springs and didn't put it back in. Put a add in the wanted section and someone may have a set they don't need.

It helps a lot of you tell us what YEAR the car is.... the springs are different from 1970 up so I may recommend one thing, while someone here who has a pre-70 car might suggest something else, as we don't have any idea from your post what year car you have.
(sorry, with tens of thousands of posts we didn't necessarily see if you had a post or thread last month where you said what year the car was, so please include that with this question) Actually, that would go for any questions - please spell out the year. For 1970 up, I have a pair of the cast aluminum spacers that sit between the spring and the spring support, can't recall the thickness but rule of thumb on those years is a 1/2" spacer would raise the car nearly 1" They are a semi-ring shape and fit right under the bottom coil, so they don't interfere with anything. I'd sell 'em cheaper than they are typically listed on eBay. My Jav sits nice, so won't use them on it, the Eagle sits a tad high, so won't need them there. But I don't know what year your car is so not sure if they would be what you are looking for. I have a few "rings" that are wired together that came from the shop where I used to work - they look almost like pre-1970 spring spacers. They are a ring shape, 1/4" or so thick, nicely finished with the edges rounded. I believe about the diameter of a front coil on the pre-70 cars. They are AMC issue, NOS, so would be as cheap as someone with an earlier AMC would prefer to have these over repro or "will-fit" parts, I'd think maybe. Edited by billd - Aug/10/2012 at 7:37am |

I have not seen a pre 70 front end setup up close but I dont think the shock runs thru the center of the spring like the 70 on up do. If that is the case then streette... said the shock runs thru the center of the spring.
Streette.... you dont need to cut the spring to lower the car. Do a search for "drop plates" you could make them to any drop amount you want but they are made to work with good stock springs.

The car is a 73. And the shock runs through the spring definatly. I have to pull the shocks to get the spring out.

Not sure what height you're looking for but I got a new set of springs from ESPO #3148 which are for a 6 cylinder,
no A/C car and it sits perfect for me. There's a post from me last year when I went through the front spring mess. Good luck!

Put a 1" spacer between the spring mount and upper control arm. (2 bolts) I use 1x1 Aluminum square stock drilled and ground for shock clearance and longer bolts I've lifted a few eagles this way . and never ran into any problems. a 1 inch spacer will give you 7/8"- 15/16" lift. and not change any of the geometry .but it's always good to check the alignment any time you change anything on the front suspension.
or get a set of springs for a 6 cyl car. Edited by toolmanxiii - Aug/11/2012 at 7:34pm |
