I used one of these for awhile, 1st failure was it crushed the nylon hat in about 2 weeks. Of course the nylon hats are chinese like the adjusters.

If I were not going for restoration, I would build linkage with heim joints and tubing.  Totally reliable and trouble free.

If this response qualifies me or negates me from the "expert" list so be it.

"The length of the adjuster rods is variable, there is no set length. The reason is, when the rod length is extended or shortened determines the engagement point of the clutch and the distance above the floor boards the clutch pedal is when the clutch engages."

Am I correct Ross ?

I can post you the length of the straight rod, without the nylon end after I get home today.....but as Armand has said it is adjustable in length, the nut on either side of the trunion, holds the trunion to a fixed point, the two two nuts lock the position.

That is how the factory set them up. The clutch pedal stuck out further than the brake.

I didn't like that at all so I adjusted my 70 so the pedals are equal, and the brake pedal is nearer to the throttle for heel and toe downshifting.

Just thinking over the cars history... maybe there is so much adjusted for the driver that goes a bit more than just expecting stock settings.

I would expect such a car to have less than stock adjustments for the driver's needs than general public.

Joe,

For you information here is an NOS AMC issue 70 and 71 Javelin and AMX pushrod with the measurements.  The 70 rod was Zinc Plated, the 71 rod was phosphate and oil finish.  I am showing the factory part numbers as reference....these were both in sealed bags that I bought from dealer in early 80's.
