Hi all. I put a 390 in my rogue and I put the original 4 speed behind it. I'm having a clutch issue. The clutch fork seems to hit the edge of the clutch fork opening in the bell housing, so the pedal doesn't travel as far as it needs too. My rogue is a 1966. Do I need a different clutch fork, or a different bell housing? I'm using the original bell housing to the car. If this sounds confusing I can post a pic tomorrow. I'm guessing that the clutch forks or the bell housings may be difference between 1966 and 1969? I've checked and double checked all the linkage and everything is fine. Thanks for any help.

Could it maybe be the AMC T10 Clutch Fork Pivot Length ? Only "aware" of this from the listing in Group 5 of the AMC 1967-72 Illustrated Parts Manual. Going by the Part Name found in list of numbers at the back of Group 5 Clutch... There appears to be -> (3) Different AMC T10 -> CLUTCH FORK PIVOT LENGTHS: 5/8" = part # 320 5362 = 67-69 V8 3/4" = part # 448 7604 = 70-71 V8 1-1/16" = part # 321 3859 = 72-72 V8 (360) (401)

i can't speak for the V8's, but even for the sixes there seems to be a lot of throwout forks. i think it's one of those parts the factory changed to make things fit. makes sense i suppose, it's a relatively cheap stamping.
flat or angled (to change throwout 'depth') and also offset, to accommodate pushrods not on-center inline. here's a pic: http://sr-ix.com/AMC/1961-Rambler-Roadster/transmission/T5research/images/various%20clutch%20forks.jpg |

I wonder if 1966 had an oddball clutch fork or bellhousing for the 290? Looking at parts from some vendors everything seems to be 67 and up. Nothing for 66.

I'm confused. From your description you started out with a 1966 Rogue 4-speed with a 290 and did nothing but replace the 290 with the 390?

Did the ball bearing fall off the pivot stud in the bellhousing when the tranny was put in?

Sounds like your clutch fork is the off set version that I have run across. That is what I call it, original would dead center, where the clutch adj. rod pivots into and the center of the other end where there the throwout bearing rides would be a straight line. Just confused myself LOL LOL,

There are different height pivot standoffs that go inside the bellhousing as described above. Did you change the throwout bearing? Maybe it's shorter than what you had before? You can try to shim the standoff and see if that helps- maybe you need a taller one.
