I have been reading an article on the 360 on the web about a guy who built a budget stroker 383 cubes, i am sure a few of you will have read the same thing.
I was looking at the pistons and i see that he started with flat top pistons and had the reliefs put into them.
My question is can i get a piston for the 360 but  with the reliefs already cut for the amc valves? If not how do you find out how to determine the valve relief size? pistons are h616cp +30 thou.
They all seem to have valve reliefs cut for the chevy already!

Cherie's are a 23 degree head
Amc is a 18 degree head

Hence the reason for the cut along with valve placements.
The 400 piston in a 360 block has been done for yearns

That was me that built the stroker.  Don't go with the chevy pistons like I did the first time around.  And don't go with Hypereutectic like I did the first time around.  If you want to build a stroker like that, I buy forged pistons made to my specification with the correct AMC valve reliefs in them at what ever compression ratio you want.  I also built a similar combination in a 343 block.  They are both screamers...

I did the chev pistons as well, by the time you pay to have the pistons honed to take the AMC pins, assuming you are using AMC rods and also get the valve reliefs cut to suit, you end up with a very expensive set of made in India hypereutectic piston and have to wonder if you would have paid anymore for some good custom forged pistons that would give you a lot more piece of mind.

That said, I did find some Mahle forged pistons after the fact that would have been a better choice once the aforementioned mods were done to them.

The great thing with custom pistons is you get exactly what you need for the engine you are building without any compromises.

When I had my motor done the pistons were for a 400 sbc made to order and we used a sbc rod and had a 390 crank offset ground to fit the rods so we got the rods to fit and a little stroke at the same time
1968 javelin sst 1966 rambler classic convertible. Now up to 3 quarter midgets

Yes, if you machine the crank to take the appropriate Chevy rods then you don't need to mess around making the Chevy pistons fit the slightly larger AMC wrist pins, there is more than one way to skin the proverbial cat as they say.

When you say you had the pistons made to order, then I would take that as effectively having custom pistons made, just based of the Chevy blank.

This is a good picture to illustrate the difference between the AMC valve reliefs (top) and the Chevy valve reliefs (bottom), I used a Speedpro piston with a small dish to help get the compression ratio I wanted, part number is shown in the picture if anybody is interested.

Not a thing wrong with that.
I suspect a bit cheaper than custom AMC pistons.
I imagine a 304 with a stroker crank
and chevy long rods and 283 pistons
could make for a awesome hot rod on the cheeeeeep
