My 78 cj 258 , with the stock carb is acting up. The mixture screw keeps backing out causing it to run rich. There are other issues as the chock assy . is out of wack which is no big deal since i do not need that anyway .But i can get this rebuilt but concerned that this old carb has worn it self out .Is there another choice as in a brand new carb ? I do not want to swap intakes to a two barrel does anyone sell a brand new one barrel.? Any ideas would be great

Try a little thread locking compound on your idle adjustment screw.

I'm sure a have an extra YF that's not worn out.  PM me with your mailing address and I'll send you a good one.  You pay postage.  If you want to keep it send my $20 for the carb.  If you don't want it, send it back.  Joe

When my 1968, 199 ci was rebuilt I got rid of the Holly carb that was on it. I bought a Carter YF at O'Rielys for about $25 with no core charge. I had to build my own throttle linkage but it works great.

There is only one Carter YF, I believe I ordered one for a 1970 Hornet. The choke was hot air and I changed it to electric.

Thanks Ollie!  When you have time (no hurry), would you mind posting a pic of your carb and linkage set up?

Starting at this picture and going backwards shows the Carter YF with my home made linkage. You can go back far enough and see my wood mock up.
