First thing I do to any car/truck that is new to me more so with drum brakes is replace ALL wheel cly. and if the shoes look thin to replace them too.

Some hate drum brakes me if the car came with them from the factory and I am only going to drive it like a normal person, read no racing/high speed braking, they are fine for me. Never any issues with them on my factory 75 v8 Gremlin.
