    Posted: Jan/19/2018 at 6:15pm
Just received my first Canton oil pan...I will say i`m highly disappointed in the workmanship...It looks like they started with a cheap Chinese pan and fitted a new sump to it..The work on the sump a pears nice but someone had a little trouble with the mock up and filled a pretty wide gap with weld...Also found several hammer/dent`s...The upper pan is so poorly stamped it`s going to be very difficult to get the rear seal to actually seal...Tomorrow i will lay it on the engine to see if it`s even flat.... I feel like i spent $400 on a $70 summit pan.... Wasn`t sure were to post this.....OuchOuchOuchOuchOuchOuchOuchOuchOuchOuchOuchOuchOuch

Milodon does make a shallow road-race style pan.   Aviaid and Armando also have road-race pans with more capacity than the Milodon.   All cost more than the Canton.

The last engine I built had one on it and I agree with you on the construction looking like it was cobbled up on the inside.

It did bolt up with no issues

One thing to watch for is that the dipstick does not hit on the oil pan when you insert it in the tube.

In my case it did rub a little going in which I did not think would be an issue because it went in without having to force it. It did take a little wiggle to get it in at times but always went in.

The problem with that is, on the dyno the dipstick wanted to work its way up sometimes. I believe it was due to the tension on the dipstick and vibration when running that caused the dipstick to raise up a half inch or so on the pull.

I told the customer he may have to trim a little off the bottom of the dipstick  if he finds the dipstick wants to walk up under driving conditions.

It was not an issue on my run stand

In the future I will make sure the dipstick does not rub going in at all for everything

I've also got the Canton pan on my AMX's 401. The side of the pan where the pickup tube is screwed in needed to be massaged so the tube had enough clearance. The sump baffle didn't have a hole in it for the dipstick to go through so I added one.

Also had to form the front seal area so there was room for the timing case oil to drain back down into the pan.

The dip stick was to long by 1/2 inch so i trimmed it put the 90deg twist in it and rounded the tip...The pickup did not interfere with the notch in the pan(I was surprised)But it also appear`s to have been massaged....And all the bolt`s went in...I have not checked pick up to pan clearance yet....Best of all the old pan was clean and the cam breaking was successful....Who sell`s a quality oil dip stick tube????

I had 3/8 clearance with mine.

For dipstick I usually get these
